Prearranged and Prepaid Funeral Services

You are interested in planning and paying for your funeral services in advance, but you would like to be guaranteed that the contract will be fulfilled once you are gone? Where can you go for information?

Prearranged funeral services means an individual has made arrangements for their own funeral ahead of time. This does not necessarily mean that the services have been paid in advance.

Prepaid funeral services means an individual prearranges and prepays for their own funeral. In most provinces there are two ways to pay for prepaid funeral services.

First, you may purchase an insurance policy that includes prepaid funeral arrangements, in which case the money will be paid to the insurance company. The other option is to purchase prepaid funeral arrangements directly from the funeral home. It is important to note that if you purchase an insurance policy with funeral service coverage, you will still need to make arrangements with a funeral home. For more detailed information, contact the Funeral Services Regulator in your province or territory.
